The August 2024 issue of Today’s Railways UK is full of interesting articles and features covering all aspects of Britain’s railways, plus all the very latest news from across Britain’s railway network. This month we look in depth at new trains on Britain’s railways, but we also include all our regular monthly sections covering light rail, heritage railways, preservation and railtours, with readers’ letters and our grumpy old man also in attendance.
Feature articles this month include:
Loco-hauled Trains & HSTs: Summer 2024: Ian Beardsley provides our annual round up of where to find scheduled loco-hauled and HST-operated passenger trains in Great Britain this summer.
Lift-Off for Leven as new Scottish line opens: 2 June saw the public descend upon the Scottish seaside town of Leven following the reopening of the new six-mile branch, with an hourly service provided rom Edinburgh. Paul Harvey looks at the fascinating history of the railway lines of this area and Robert Pritchard takes a ride on the new service and looks at what it offers the passenger.
An Afternoon at….Nuneaton: For his latest trip, Mike Reynolds heads to the busy junction of Nuneaton, the largest town in Warwickshire.
Life on the Edge: The Bridgnorth Cliff Railway: The picturesque Shropshire market town of Bridgnorth is, perhaps, best known to rail enthusiasts as the northern terminus of the Severn Valley Railway. However, it is not the only railway to service the town. It is also home to a somewhat shorter line, used by locals and tourists alike, which is just a five minute walk from the Severn Valley station. Gary Essex visits the Bridgnorth Cliff Railway.
Seven Up to Edinburgh: Edinburgh Waverley is the only station in Scotland (and one of only a small number in the UK) to be served by seven different operators. Robin Ralston looks at the operators working to and from the Scottish capital in words and pictures.
